Sketch an energy line
Draw a line across a page while listening, raising it when the music feels more intense and lowering it when the intensity falls. This is a subjective map, not a measurement of loudness. Different listeners can draw different shapes.
Notice the transitions
Choose one change in your drawing and replay the passage around it. Was the shift sudden or gradual? Notice whether adding a part, removing one, changing register, or leaving space affected your sense of direction.
Keep the note small
Write one observation and one question for a later listen. These prompts are an invitation to explore, not a definitive account of the composer’s intentions or recording process.
