Hear how music changes a scene
Compare a scene with silence and with music before deciding what the music should do.
Notebook entry ·

Watch without a score
Use a short clip you made yourself or have permission to work with. Watch it in silence and write down what is already clear from the image: pace, a change in attention, or an unresolved moment. Music need not repeat everything the picture already says.
Choose one question
Ask whether the music should support the visible mood, create distance from it, or leave room for an uncertain reading. Try one intention at a time. A quiet scene with energetic music can feel very different from the same scene with a sparse texture; neither choice is automatically better.
Compare entrances and exits
Move the musical entrance a little earlier, then later. Listen to the transition at both ends instead of judging only the middle. If the clip includes dialogue, check that the words remain easy to follow without increasing playback volume.
Separate practice from publication
An editing exercise is not the same as a licensed release. Before sharing a finished video, check the rights to both the footage and the music and include the required credits. A listening copy on this site does not replace the composer’s license terms.
A listening companion
